This route has totally gone back to nature. Together with 4 volunteers, I have just spent many hours in the heat, trying to clear a way through from the bottom of the Vouno hill on the Old Clima side, through to image 87, but it's going to take many man-hours to do this. There is however a dirt road that goes around the hill but it is very steep in places and a much longer route. I'll let you know when I manage to get the track open.

Heather,
We met Richard last week whilst we were on the island, and he told us about the efforts to open up the walk from Dijali spring... we walked it and congratulate you all on such a major achievement... I had given up trying to get up that trail years ago as it was taken back by nature!
After the good news the bad... I was as shocked as you obviously are by what has happened to the walk at the back of Panormos... what can one say? At least it is for water, which I suppose is better than new houses with swimming pools. Jane and I worked hard on that walk again with the clippers and saw, and so it is all passable from Raches across the new tarmac road and on towards the chapel on the ridge. I did my best to cut up the windfall tree across the section between the chapel and Mourtero, and now at least it is possible to clamber underneath the main limb. It now needs a chain saw to finish the job!
We also did some trimming at the end of the section of the walk to Elios or Sendouki behind Ananias, just before it gets back to the tarmac... its pretty bad for just 40 yards, and really needs a savage hack back with power tools, but at least for this year it is now passable.
We also found another devastation by bulldozer... the little path up from Mylos to Raches... on the top section just before you reach the tarmac road there’s a house being built, and the whole section of path had been bulldozed away. I went to see Spiros Englezos at the town office about it, and he kindly reported it to the police, but whether that will make any difference... Spiros said we should take it up with the mayor..
I am afraid our visits are so short that we can only make a little effort to help keep the old calderimi open, but we do what we can, and try to tell as many Greeks as will listen how important they are for future tourism.
Best wishes, John and Jane (Jane’s house, or even Britt- Marie’s...)
